Simon Romero is an American journalist who has been the Andean bureau chief for The New York Times since 2006, based in Caracas, Venezuela. Romero joined the Times in March 1999.Romero was born and raised in New Mexico and graduated from West Las Vegas High School in San Miguel County, N.M. He subsequently graduated with honors from Harvard College with a degree in History and Literature. He also studied for one year in the history department at the University of So Paulo in Brazil.Romero joined the Times as a contract writer in March 1999, covering economic issues from So Paulo, Brazil.
