Live television
Summary
Live television refers to television broadcast in real time. Today it is used mostly for programs such as Today, CBS This Morning, and local television news. However, from the early days of television until about 1958, it was used heavily, except for filmed shows such as I Love Lucy and Gunsmoke. Videotape did not exist until 1957.In general live television was more common for broadcasting content produced specifically for television in the early years of the medium, before technologies such as videotape recording appeared. As video recording became more prevalent, many entertainment programs were recorded and edited before broadcasting rather than being shown live.

Dish's Bostonians Celebrate Tiny Beer, Recliners and the Death of the TV Spot
The Boston Guys return and local accents abound in Dish's cute campaign for its "Hopper" DVR with Sling, which lets users skip commercial blocks. That functionality has caused some controversy, and it's the focus of "In Memoriam," a commercial about a funeral for commercials. That ad's getting the most attention owing to its intentional meta-irony, but I prefer the other two new spots in the series, which play up the fact that Hopper lets users watch live TV and access their DVR from anywhere.

Data Points: Social Savior

But is social TV generating more involvement with the ads or just a distraction? It may be too early in the game to draw any conclusions, but an examination of social media volume by Taykey, a social ad firm, suggests that social TV may not necessarily be such a good thing for ads.
