Summary
The Carolina Panthers are a professional American football team based in Charlotte, North Carolina, U.S. They are currently members of the South Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The Panthers, along with the Jacksonville Jaguars, joined the NFL as expansion teams in 1995. In their 15 years of existence, the Panthers have compiled a record of 115–121, and appeared in Super Bowl XXXVIII in Houston, Texas.In 1987, shortly after it was decided that Charlotte would receive an expansion National Basketball Association franchise (the Charlotte Hornets, now known as the New Orleans Hornets), former Baltimore Colts player Jerry Richardson met with a group of potential backers to discuss the possibility of bringing an NFL expansion team to the Carolina region.
