Our team grows: Briefing Media adds CFO, plans further online expansion

You may have seen the announcement this week about us entering an agreement to buy two fantastic business media brands from UBM, Farmers Guardian and Pulse. Here are some more details on what we're doing:

This is a huge opportunity for us and we're busy plotting the course for 2012 and the years ahead for Briefing Media Group. Something else to announce is that Rupert Levy, the finance director of Dods PLC, is to join Briefing Media Group as our CFO, which we're very pleased about. (Dods' release is here)

Rupert has experience of running big media organisations' finances: he has been at Dods since 2008 after working for Haymarket Exhibitions; Sport Entertainment & Media Group, WMRC Plc and Miller Freeman. He joins us in a few weeks' time. This follows the hiring of Louise White and Andy Oakes as associate directors.

What's the plan?

We're not going into the strategy and plan behind our expansion right now, but I hope we can soon. Suffice to say, we see a lot of value in publishing to engaged readers in important industry sectors.

From a personal point of view, this marks a transition from where we were 18 months ago - three men, a technology partner and an idea - to today, as a company of just under 100 staff and several million pounds in revenue.

Originally, our plan was to launch websites and events covering sectors outside the media industry and, despite our acquisitions, that remains the case.

So on that note: we are still looking for a journalist to run TheTelecomsBriefing, a new site covering the challenges facing the growing global telecoms world and the strategy senior professionals need to survive and thrive in a competitive market.

We want someone who knows - or be willing to very quickly learn - about telecoms, networks, new technology such as 4G, the mobile landscape and the infrastructure of communications. This is not a regular reporting job - it's about community, high value analysis and thought leadership. All the better if you are confident planning and running events and don't mind getting involved in the commercial side of the business.

Please do bear with us while get back to regular analysis on media issues on TheMediaBriefing as normal. So much has happened recently, it seems a good time to take stock and look at where we are. Even more fun is thinking about where we'll be this time next year.
