TheMediaBriefing is the real-time news and information resource for the media industry. We intelligently curate thousands of articles each day, adding our own taxonomy to help you make sense of an fast-changing media landscape.

Our semantic algorithm sorts articles about the media industry into easy-to-use categories and topic pages - which we combine with specially commissioned long-form journalism and expert analysis. We don't just sort the news: TheMediaBriefing adds a layer of textual analysis that helps you make sense of the news every day.

Why now?

At a time when the global media industry is going through a seismic shift, the analysis of these changes is becoming more and more fragmented and difficult to find. Increasingly it is not only the big trade media brands that we turn to for coverage but rather a range of specialist sites, research labs, bloggers and contributors across a variety of social platforms. TheMediaBriefing exists to collate and intelligently sift these sources.

Who we are

TheMediaBriefing was established in 2010 by B2B media executives Rory Brown and Neil Thackray. The site is powered by semantic technology from developers at idio to create a unique platform that merges the intelligence of the wider web with specially commissioned experts.

TheMediaBriefing is the first product for the company. Other industry-focused websites sites are in the pipeline.

Rory Brown

Until the end of 2008 Rory was the managing director of the interactive marketing division of Incisive Media - a large business media company based in London.

Rory's background is in marketing – subscription magazines, conferences, training, events, books, research, online services etc. During his career has worked on some of the largest and most successful brands in the business.

Neil Thackray

Neil Thackray has worked in business media for more than 25 years and on digital projects since 1996. He began his career at Reed Business Information acting as publishing director of numerous magazines and trade shows.

Neil now provides consulting services to media companies, of which the topics covered include digital development, reader engagement, pricing, market strategy, asset reviews and analysis.

Patrick Smith

Patrick Smith is the editor and chief analyst of TheMediaBriefing.com. He's a London-based journalist who has covered the changing nature of the media industry since 2005. Until January 2010 he was UK correspondent for paidContent and has written for several B2B media titles.
